The Machars, Galloway, Scotland

Cults Cottage is situated adjacent to a rare breeds turkeys & sheep farm, amidst rolling landscape in the south of Wigtownshire known as the Machars. To the east lies Wigtown Bay; west across the peninsula is Port William on the shores of Luce Bay; to the south Whithorn and the Isle of Whithorn; north lies the county town of Wigtown, Scotland's Book Town, and Newton Stewart, Gateway to the Galloway Hills.

The main road crossing the region is the A75, which runs from Stranraer (until recently the ferry port for Northern Ireland - ferries now run from Cairnryan, a few miles to the north) to Gretna on the Border with England.
